My New Islaymobile

Picture of a Mini Clubman, red with black roof

Enough hinting, the important appointment I had yesterday morning was to pick up my new car, a MINI Cooper D Clubman. Nothing to do with Islay really, apart from that I'm probably going to call it my Islaymobile. After all it will hopefully take me to Islay many many times. Not to forget that Batman has the Batmobile and the Blues Brothers have the Bluesmobile, so I've decided I'm going to have an Islaymobile.

I don't know if any Mini Clubman has made it to Islay yet, if not may be mine will be the first when I come over for my next visit in April? Should someone beat me to it I demand proof, ideally in the form of a picture of it on Islay's roads.

Having only picked it up yesterday I haven't driven it much yet (it now has just over 50 miles on the clock), but so far I'm very pleased with it. The drive is very smooth, everything feels so much more refined and safer than in my old car. The brakes are much more agressive than in the old car, giving me trust into the car, a feeling I was beginning to lose with the old one. The automatic engine start/stop function felt a bit weird the first two or three times, but I'm used to it already and like it a lot. I think visibility is perfectly fine, completely different to what Jeremy Clarkson thinks. But then I think he's largely clueless anyway.

The only annoying thing is that I haven't been able to open the sunroof yet, the one luxury I've allowed myself. Not because it doesn't work or I don't know how to open it, no, simply because it's been raining down here for the last 48 hours. Well, something to look forward to: Cruising along Loch Indaal on Islay on a sunny day with the roof open...
