Friday Islay Picture (61)

My first thought for today was to post a picture of a Magpie (not a very common bird on Islay). But then I don't have a picture of a Magpie, be it on Islay or anywhere else. So I had to come up with something else. How about the Islay lifeboat at the station in Port Askaig? Here you go:

There is obviously a reason I picked this picture:

The Daily Record only has a fairly short item, Honours for Islay lifeboat team. But a lot more information is available in the RNLI news release: Islay lifeboat crew’s courage recognised. Yesterday the crew led by Islay RNLI Coxswain David MacLellan were presented with Thanks of the Institution on Vellum and RNLI Vellum Service Certificates. They received these awards for their seamanship and outstanding teamwork in the rescue efforts for the Niamh Aine on the 4th of January 2008. Read the details in the news release, really some outstanding work.

Hopefully they won't be called out this weekend and can celebrate their awards. With that thought, have a great weekend! If you're a father also have a great Father's Day (at least if you live in the UK, the US and a few other countries).
