Upcoming Island Writers Book
With Christmas less than three months away you might be looking for an Islay and Jura related Christmas present. It's not out just yet, but from everything I know it looks very promising, a new book edited by James Knox Whittet, who was born and brought up on Islay:
The book is called Writers on Islands, published by Iron Press and scheduled for release in November. In it you will find 50 authors writing about island life. I'm not entirely sure if Islay will receive a direct mention, but I know Jura definitely will. As many will be aware George Orwell wrote most of his famous book ‘1984’ at Barnhill on Jura, which will be described in one of the essays.
I'm looking forward to the book, I'm sure it will be very interesting reading. Not only from an Islay and Jura perspective, but for islands in general. Good for the long dark winter nights on Scottish islands and elsewhere.
