Islay Blogging Roundup #58

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

So that's another weekend over. Time for another Islay blogging roundup, some kind of a constant in a changing and volatile world. It's been some fantastic weather in many parts of the UK this weekend. Not only on Islay, no, even down here in Aldermaston Wharf at IslayBlog.com HQ. But back to the blogs and Islay this week:

The tragic road accident with three deaths on Islay made this a difficult week. I decided not to really blog on the day almost immediately after hearing of it on Tuesday evening, but to keep blogging at a slower pace the next day. Ron decided to report the accident in much detail including an archive picture of the area, but to then take a break after setting up an Online Condolence Register. Tom at the “Officially Unofficial” Bruichladdich Blog offered his condolences and has been quiet since, while the Bruichladdich Blog continued to blog after expressing their thoughts in Tragedy on the Strand. The Islay Birds blog decided not to blog for a few days.

Which decision was right I don't know, I guess there isn't really a right way, just different ways different people are comfortable with for them.

Moving on to other topics is difficult now, still I'm going to try. Across the Northern Channel Slugger O'Toole writes about A’ Fosgladh Dorsan between Islay and Ballycastle… and creates quite a heated discussion in the comments. The Landed Underclass tells the story of a Novelty paperweight and recounts an experience in the Museum of Islay Life.

John Hansell asks about Bruichladdich “progressiveness”: your thoughts? and has some interesting responses already. I don't know if Mark or Jim read John's blog and will respond to him or if they are too busy with their Bottling Bonanza. From somewhere in Asia (I'm guessing Taiwan?) a blogger reports from what looks like a Bruichladdich masterclass or tasting (see also the photo gallery from the event).

From over in Germany a blogger writes up his impressions of the Caol Ila 12, one of the whiskies he bought in an Islay collection. Also from Germany Whiskymagazin.de has T-Shirts für Whiskyfreunde (T-Shirts for whisky lovers) including a few Islay t-shirts.

Ron listed the Islay Online Christmas Shopping opportunities. IslayIan is still not blogging (but twittering) and has a few great pictures of Islay on Saturday.

Finally the birdwatching is fairly light this week, the Islay Birds blog bringing an interesting picture of a Barnie getting picked on while the Islay Birder reports of perfect conditions for survey work and the first sighting of a coal tit in his garden ever.

With that I close this week's roundup. Next week on this blog expect an update about the Islay Hotel and a writeup of my experience with the recipe for Scotch-Peanut Chocolate Truffles using Islay Single Malt Whisky. What other blogs will write I don't know.

Before I leave you as usual the reference to the Scottish Roundup, this week with From Damian Green to Christmas in the Tom Harris household. Good night!
