Supporting Cancer Research

Picture of a woman walking on a beach with rocks in the background

Today I won't be blogging about Islay, but something more personal instead. Today would have been my mother's birthday. She isn't with us to celebrate it any more, she passed away in April after a long fight against pancreatic cancer. A combination of chemotherapy and her strong will to survive the cancer as long as possible gave us some valuable time, allowing a last visit to Islay where the picture on the right was taken. Which brings me to the topic of today's entry, supporting cancer research.

Over the last few years I've always sent my mother flowers for her birthday. Whereever she is now, I can't do that any more. Instead I've decided to make a donation to Cancer Research UK in her memory, something I intend to do every year now. The advances in cancer treatment made possible through research worldwide allowed her and many other patients to have better therapy and quality of life after the horrible diagnosis.

Cancer is an illness which in some way will probably impact all of us, be it us personally, a relative or a close friend. Especially at the moment with the ‘credit crunch’ I fear charities including the cancer (research) charities will be struggling for funds. If you are lucky enough to have some money you can donate, may be consider cancer research? Here are some I found for various countries during some research today:

This is obviously by no means a complete list, if you have other/better suggestions feel free to leave them in the comments. Thank you for your time and reading this entry, normal Islay blogging should resume tomorrow.
