Barge Working Off Bowmore, Islay

Picture of a construction fence around a water treatment outlet, a barge with a crane in the background

Loch Indaal around Bowmore is quite busy at the moment and that's not only because the geese having arrived on Islay recently. If you walk down to the pier, past the construction fence, you'll see two barges and a ship working on Loch Indaal. The most visible activity seems to be taking place on the barge anchored just off Bowmore distillery, at least it was that way on Thursday afternoon:

ForArgyll has some more background in Bowmore’s new Waste Water Treatment Works enters key stage. Taking a closer look at the barge we can see one of the ‘special mattresses’ being lowered into the water:

Finally a closer look at the ‘special mattresses’ being lowered into the water. Not sure what the colourful cable the diver (?) is holding is for. Some link to divers working under water placing the mattresses?
