Islay Golf Teacher Ron Goudie in the News

Islay News in stencil

Remember Ron Goudie, the Islay Golf Teacher? I introduced him and some of his work on this blog back in March 2009. Back then he was still fairly new to Islay and ramping his business. Now he's been on Islay for a while and his exposure and fame are increasing as two recent reports in the Scottish media show:

The first report I spotted on STV Sport, it is titled Local Hero and mainly covers his work on the junior golf coaching programme:

The former Epsom-based coach is responsible for developing a successful junior golf coaching programme which has injected fresh impetus to Islay Golf Club and neighbouring Colonsay.

The second report is from The Herald and has a quite similar but better title: Local Hero – Ron Goudie taking golf to the children of Islay. While in general about the same topic it does go into quite a bit more detail:

That emphasis on youth is mirrored in the reasons behind the family’s relocation to the island. After spending 15 years as the professional at the club in Epsom where he learned the game at the age of seven, Goudie felt it was time to move on because as well as the business delivering diminishing returns, he was spending less and less time with his 11-year-old son.

Some great information in there, congratulations to Ron! If you're interested in where Ron is teaching, here's a short video about the Machrie Golf Links (not related to Ron Goudie, just a general video about the golf course).
