Islay Blogging Roundup #121

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

It's Sunday evening, it must be Islay blogging roundup time. While the usual topics like the UK General Election 2010, the infamous ash cloud and the end of the Premier League football season might have featured heavily elsewhere, I'm just going to focus on Islay and Jura in the blogs this week:

Let me start with the shortest Islay and Jura related blog entry this week (and quite possibly ever) on the GB4DTD Blog: Landed. The Pop Cop takes a bit more time with a list of Treasure islands, listing pop bands with members from the islands. The Islay contribution is Foxface, a band I've mentioned here earlier. Lindsay and Fiona's Travels have taken them to Islay with Good Weather!

Writer Joan Lennon recently hinted at another visit to Islay after having been at the Islay Book Festival. She has now returned and describes her experience in Islay - Part One, Islay - Part Two and Islay - Part Three with text and pictures.

Now for a few Islay whisky related posts: The Bruichladdich Blog is a bit quiet at the moment, but others have mentioned Islay malts. On electrichalibut.co.uk we find go home or know more about bowmore while Water of Life points out A Tea For Scotch Drinkers? (provided they like smoky, peaty whisky).

Tasting Ardbeg comes from Guid Scotch Drink, Caskstrength.net asked Where Will Your Vote Go?? (and ended up with Ardbeg) and the Whisky Exchange blog has One for the Road: Port Ellen Signatory Tasting Notes. Serge's Whisky Fun is just Tasting two Octomore while Whiskynotes had a Port Ellen week, among others with the Port Ellen 6th release (1978), the Port Ellen 7th release (1979) and the Port Ellen PE1 (Elements of Islay).

Ron is coming to the end of his first week on Islay, from where he updates us through his Posterous account. Among others entries were Relaxed Day on Islay, Low Clouds on Islay at Loch Indaal and Kilchoman and A Perfect Spring Day on Islay. He's also been on Jura, where he had a Magnificent Day on Jura.

On to bird- and wildlife watching: Gordon Yates writes Hares Box At Last. On the Islay Birds we find great pictures of a Curlew and a Common Crane. John Islay Birder Armitage had an exciting day with Choughs and writes about Whimbrel migration.

Finally to the pictures. Long term readers might remember Mirko Herzner, he's taken a look at an older picture and posted a different interpretation of a Rubber raft on Jura. Ian Besch ponders why a specific tree is a popular topic for pictures. On Mark's Islay Photography Gallery I quite liked Loch Ardnahoe, Dunlossit Pig 2 and Afterglow at Saligo 2. Of course I also posted daily pictures on my Islay Pictures photoblog, I think my favourites this week were Reflections in Machir Bay and Geese, Beinn Tart a'Mhill and Port Charlotte at Loch Indaal, Isle of Islay.

That's it for today I think, but not before the weekly link to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture. Here we unsurprisingly return to the election, with Indecision Time. Good night for now!
