Islay Blogging Roundup #132

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

It seems Sunday evening has arrived again already? Have only achieved half of what I had hoped for this weekend. At least I managed a trip to Laverstoke Park Farm for some Buffalo burgers, sausages, milk and ice cream. I don't know if buffalos are suitable for Islay, if any of the farmers on Islay were to diversify into them I certainly would be one of their customers. After that culinary excursion back to Islay blogging, what have the blogs been writing about Islay and Jura recently?

As one of the other things I did this weekend was to buy a bird feeder (not sure if it will attract many birds) I thought I start with the bird- and wildlife blogs this week: On the Islay Birds blog we find pictures of a Whimbrel and a ‘laughing’ Common Gull, also news of four young House Sparrows. John Islay Birder Armitage writes down his concerns about ‘lesser’ birds and has a day out birdwatching.

The Islay Natural History Trust blog has some Rhizocarpon geographicum (that's Lichen for us mortals) and Malcolm has discovered some “Lucky” white heather. There's also a nice Peacock Butterfly (Inachis io) and Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas).

Moving on to the whisky and gin the Bruichladdich Blog of course reports on the Islay Gintrification, Gin McEwan and Dirty Dottie meets Ugly Betty. Others prefer to stay with the whisky, where there's an Ardbeg Month at Whisky*Israel. I can't read any of it, but I believe someone from the Polish whisky-blog.pl is on an Islay visit (or writing about an earlier one): Wyprawa na Islay: W drodze do Portu Kennacraig I think covers the journey from Campbeltown to Kennacraig while Wyprawa na Islay: Laphroaig describes the arrival on Islay and a visit to Laphroaig distillery. Whisky from that distillery is also reviewed in Grovhuggen analys av Laphroaig Cairdeas Master Edition.

There are Breaking News from the Islay Half Marathon 2010 and Ron points out Ardtalla Beach - One of Islay's Hidden Gems while also writing about The Charm of Island Life

Marre, Gubbe and Bosse also visited Islay in En helt galen och underbar resa, go to days 6, 7 and 8. Preparations for another journey continue, Eleanor and James Crossing Scotland Coast to Coast, with Eleanor taking her training seriously … and Training on Islay - and they're paddling …

A .....Whirlwind Whisky Tour.... includes quite a few entries posted live from Islay: Luggage retuned...finally, Pot Still Bar and quick flight to Islay, Laphroaig!, Women on whisky, Ardbeg, Walking 3 miles along Islay's tiny road- Laphroaig to Ardbeg, Folks.. I'm here!, Yum... Very rare taste!, Upside down.., Waking up so the sounds of a weather change..., Yesterday, And today..., My view from Breakfast..., Last day on Islay comes to an end..., My view @ dinner... Yip, its still light out there..., Bowmore and finally Awards for Candice & Islay Airport... cover the Islay visit.

On Tiptoe we find a few sailing pictures, Islay, Islay falls astern as we make our way up along the east coast of Jura on another glorious summer day and A rather nice French yacht in Tarbert Bay Jura and oh that thing called the sun!

As is tradition I close with the pictures, on Mark's Islay Photography Gallery we have Kintra 2 and Kintra 3 continuing from last week. Ron posted a Sunday Morning Islay Picture and Ardtalla Beach. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think my favourites this week were Another view of the Ugly Betty Still at Bruichladdich Distillery and the Rinns of Islay Lighthouse from Claddach.

And I think that's it for this week. As usual the link to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with Scottish Roundup – step a little bit outside the comfort zone. Good night!

PS: Especially if you're on Islay with hardly any light pollution (in particular once you leave the villages) this year should be a great year to watch the Perseid meteor shower in a few days. Fingers crossed there will be at least one clear night from the 11th to the 13th of August. May be I'll find something more about it in one of the blogs?
