Islay Blogging Roundup #147

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

From flying over Jura with a microlight back to Islay. It's been a calm and sunny day on Islay (picture courtesy of @ islayian), similar to the sunny Sunday I had down south. With that over to what the blogs had to say about Islay this week:

Let me start with the whisky: Dougie has been following the travels of Barnard for a while now, this week he wrote about his visit to Laphroaig Distillery, Islay. In a Quick Update posted earlier in the week he mentioned there's more to come.

Bruichladdich's Jim McEwan went to Germany, Jörg has a review of the tasting in Rückblick: Bruichladdich Day mit Jim McEwan bei Whisky & Dreams in Eppertshausen. All Things Whisky have a Feature Interview with Jim McEwan while the Whisky Boys have a Q&A with Mark Reynier.

Earlier in the week I wrote (Bruichladdich) Islay Gin outsells Islay Whisky, hoping I might be able to mention a few reviews of the gin this weekend. I haven't really found any just yet, so that will have to wait. The only thing I have found is a lighthearted ‘complaint’: Non Progressive Hebridean Distillers! Oh, and there is a mention in this Japanese blog, but I have no idea what it says.

Moving on slightly there's a review of an old beer: Pete Drinks: Islay Ales' Bruichladdich 2008 Peat Ale. Michael Kew travelled to Islay for some surfing (and whisky), ultimately to find out that Whisky Wins.

Seal Diet Scotland are quite regular visitors to Islay's and Jura's waters, they had a bit of excitement this time: Shipwrecked – well not quite just a run of the mill propeller change required! Earlier they were Struggling to find seals after Beating the weather to go scatting!

Apart from the Islay Ferry MV Finlaggan Latest Pictures Ron continues with last week's theme, snow: Amazing Islay Winter Images by James Deane, Breathtaking Islay Snow Images by Ewan Graham and Islay Snow Images by Mark Unsworth are just three examples of them.

James keeps the Islay Birds blog running while Ian and Margaret send the occasional update from Trinidad. In the beautiful weather today James went for a stroll along Loch Gruinart and earlier in the week reported several Red Kite. John Islay Birder Armitage recovers from the flu and goes to Jura for the day. The Islay Natural History Trust blog tells of Another Sunday along Port Charlotte shore and reminds us of INHT - what it's all about.... There are also news about the Biological Records Database and a post about Lichens.

Pictures, let me start with a great one from the INHT blog: Barnacle geese in a Big Red Sky. On Mark's Islay Photography Gallery is a beautiful view of Loch Siob on Jura with the snow covered Paps of Jura. There's also a great view of The Sound of Islay, I like the wide open space here. On his Islaystudios's Blog is a great story about (No) Snow Business. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for Heading out for a surf and the Natural Arch near Mala Bholsa, Isle of Islay.

That should be pretty much it for this week, as usual the reference to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with The winter wonderland, tuition fees and wikileaks Edition. Good night, more Islay blogging next week!
