Islay Distillery looking for Engineer

Islay Whisky News & Links in stencil

Quite a few people are considering moving to Islay, but as everywhere else they need to make a living. Meaning they need to either become self employed or find a job. Unfortunately I'm not an engineer, otherwise I would have looked at a position currently being offered on Islay. Over the weekend Russell McCaig contacted me and asked if I could mention this position on the blog. It's not something I expect to do regularly, but I thought if it might help someone to find their dream job on Islay, why not, let's give it a go. Here's what Russell sent me:

Maxwell Bruce’s client, one of Scotland’s leading distillers of single malt whisky, has a current requirement for a time served mechanical or multi-disciplined engineer to work in their distillery on Islay.

The role will involve carrying out preventative & planned maintenance as well as attending to breakdowns, to ensure the safe and efficient running of all distillery machinery and plant. The post will also include project planning, the management & supervision of contractors and the sourcing of parts and equipment. Although the principal role is that of engineering, warehousing duties are also included.

The successful applicant will have experience of carrying out planned maintenance programs, fault finding and dealing with a range of mechanical repairs. Some basic electrical engineering experience would also be preferred. You will be knowledgeable in running projects from planning to completion and be a confident decision maker who can work autonomously and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in a distillery although not essential would be a distinct advantage. Flexibility is required in terms of working hours as you will be required to attend emergency breakdowns.

£Excellent salary plus overtime and other benefits - This is an excellent role which may suit candidates seeking to relocate to Islay for a lifestyle change.

That's all the information I have (I doubt Russell would be able to give me more, client confidentiality etc), so if you are interested in the position you can contact Russell McCaig at Maxwell Bruce on 0141 227 3953 or email a copy of your CV to russell.mccaig@maxwellbruce.com.
