1000 Islay Pictures
It all started almost three years ago on Saturday the 13th of December 2008 with a picture of Port Ellen, Isle of Islay. Today on Wednesday the 30th November 2011 I posted October Sun in Machir Bay, Isle of Islay. Why does that matter? I guess the title of this entry should give it away:
This morning I posted what I believe to be the 1000th picture on the Islay Pictures photoblog. The Eagle eyed among you might have spotted that it says showimage=1001, nevertheless I believe this to be the 1000th picture (I once made a mistake and had to delete a picture, this number then wasn't ‘recycled’ when I posted the next picture).
What you see on the left is a very much reduced screenshot of the 1000 thumbnails of all the pictures on the blog now. 142 rows of seven pictures and one row of six pictures. No, I didn't count the rows, my calculator did the work for me.
It's almost impossible to pick my favourite, if I really have to pick one I think I'll have to go for October Sunrise over Kilchoman Beach, Machir Bay, Isle of Islay. It is one of the few pictures I have physically printed on canvas, Mark Unsworth of Islay Studios actually printed it for me on Islay (I knew he was going to get the colours right, just like I wanted them) before it made the long journey south.
Other favourites include Sunset at Saligo Bay (2), Sunset over Loch Gorm and Saligo, Stars in the Night Sky over Machir Bay, Otter in Machir Bay, Laphroaig Distillery Panorama, Border Collie on the beach in Machir Bay and many more.
While most of the pictures are my own there are also a few from others, namely my mother and in particular my sister. Some from my sister include the Midsummer Sunset with a Bottle of Laproaig, the Skylark on a fence post at Killinallan and the Otter on the Jura Shore of the Sound of Islay. One of my favourite pictures with her in it on the blog is Imke on a Toy Tricycle on Jura with a view of Islay.
I hope you've enjoyed looking at the first 1000 pictures as much as I have enjoyed selecting and posting them. Time for a celebratory wee dram of Islay single malt while picking a picture for tomorrow morning…
