Islay Blogging Roundup #196

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Finally a weekend with some decent weather in large parts of the UK, including Islay and West Berkshire. After chilly mornings in Aldermaston Wharf I went for two nice runs along the canal in the sunshine, a shorter one yesterday and a longer one from Aldermaston Wharf to Brimpton Lock today. Not as good as the beach walks on Islay I know some people enjoyed. With that over to Islay in the blogs this week:

On Monday the Bruichladdich Blog announced that an Astrophysicist to Help Bruichladdich to Reach for the Stars. Turns out said has a blog as well, called Whisky Adventures. Two entries so far about his new job, Announcement: A New and Exciting Whisky Adventure and Distillery Equipment: The Distillery Bouncer. The Bruichladdich blog also writes about Bella Logan’s Bottom (which might not be what some first think). If you speak German you can eine Flasche Laphroaig Quarter Cask gewinnen with Eye for Spirits while the Dutch (I think) A dram for everyone writes about the Lagavulin 16 jaar. Not one but two showings for Lagavulin on Scotch Cinema: Lagavulin in "Parks & Recreation" (Part 1) and Lagavulin in "Parks & Recreation" (Part 2). The Jewish SMWS tastes the Kilchoman Spring 2011 Release – Very mature for its age.

Jo Woolf's The Hazel Tree had a few Islay related entries recently. This week I found Images from Machir Bay, Scottish Castles: Dunyvaig and The whisky distilleries of Islay.

In other news Port Ellen Primary's Our Learning Blog blog announced some good news about Mrs Macdonald Head Teacher. Completely unrelated Ciara enjoyed a Sleep Over. Ron writes about the planned Activities of Wild and Magic Islay in 2012 and the Islay Whisky Distillery Prints by Jane Taylor. Sara Parkin has an interesting post on the Forum for the Future blog, Back to a non-resilient future?

After last week's storm break the birdwatching is in full swing again: The Islay Birds blog has pictures of an Iceland Gull and a Cackling Goose. There were also sightings by Peter & Pia as well as sightings on The Oa from David. The Islay Natural History Trust blog brought us Brent Geese and Early Primroses, sadly also a Road casualty - Male Merlin. John Armitage on his new A birding odyssey blog had Overall, a pretty satisfying day! on Friday. He also went for some Local winter birding! and helped with the Wetland Bird Surveys.

Pictures, some very nice ones again this week. My picture of the week is by Niall Colthart, The Kildalton Cross at Night, a fabulous shot. Also on the INHT blog two nice shots of Rainbows in Bowmore. Mark Unsworth Image of the week takes us to Kilchiaran bay while on his Islay Photography Gallery we find a Waterfall at Kilchiaran and some big Waves, Port Wemyss. Ron has Crois Mhor Cottage and Snow on the Paps. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for the Singing Sands and Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, the October in Machir Bay Panorama and Wild Seas and Foam in Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay.

I think that's about it for this week, I hope I haven't missed anything significant. As usual the link to the Scottish Roundup, this week with A parcel of rogues? Good night!
