Islay Blogging Roundup #203

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

And into March we move, spring can't be too far away now. Although, at least in West Berkshire we finally had some much needed heavy rain followed even by some sleet/ snow later. The day finished dry and clear though. Much sunnier weather on Islay for most of the day as far as I know. And with that over to what the blogs had to say about Islay in the last week or so:

Last week I said I was expecting more from Gordon about his trip to Islay, and he delivered: The Eight go wild on Islay ! entry is now fully updated with a complete trip report and there's also a separate tasting review of The Geordie Laddies 10yo Port Charlotte, the reason for the trip. Johnny writes about The Salty Dog of the Isle of Islay. Mike writes about the Go! Whisk(e)y Weekend 2012, which was also attended by some of the Islay distilleries. On the other side of the planet the Distant Thunder Whisky Club attended a Kilchoman tasting event @ Oak Barrel. Back to the UK where Normal Service Resumes at Glasgow's Whisky with an Octomore 4.2 Comus. As I haven't got any of the new tins yet I haven't been able to test it yet, but Bruichladdich is now adding QR Codes with links to further information, an interesting idea.

In other news Pat writes about Doctors for Islay while Ron writes about Die Whiskyinsel Islay vor Schottlands Küste and the Book Launch at the Lagavulin Distillery. The IET blog has news of the IET Submission to Scottish Parliament Inquiry. Liz Lochhead tops the bill in Port Ellen as Islay Book Festival programme announced writes the Scottish Island Writers Network.

There was also a lot of great activity at Port Ellen Primary school's Our Learning Blog, starting with a long report about the SHINTY TOURNAMNET as I had hoped last week. There were also reports from the World Book Day and the World book day bookmark competition. Even Pancake Day received a mention.

The birdwatching and wildlife: Katy is from Enfield in London and went birdwatching on Islay last year, she writes about her experiences in Islay Trip - 11th - 18th September 2011, lots of pictures as well. The Islay Birds blog started the week with a miserable sort of day, followed by the monthly bird nerd meeting. I assume the birds weren't too bothered about the earthquakes. Speaking about those, the Islay Natural History Trust blog writes about the Earthquake! in much more detail. There are also Scarlet Elf Cap - Sarcosypha coccinea, Lesser Celandine and Mosses and Lichens - Bruaich Jerich. John Armitage also writes about the Earthquakes on Islay! before turning to New month, new start? Andrew Chick has pictures of an Adult Iceland Gull at Islay - 25th Feb 2012.

The pictures: Ian from Canada writes about Islay memories and gilt by association, illustrating it with nice pictures. Victoria Phipps from Cheshire travelled to Islay recently and shows her pictures in Film | Queen of the Hebrides. Mark Unsworth brings us some Raw Spirit which is very closely related to his Image of the week / To the brim ! There are some pictures on the INHT blog again, including Saligo - James Deane, Laphroaig Distillery - Niall Colthart and Kilchiaran. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for Kilchoman Distillery and the Sea, Dunyvaig Castle at Lagavulin Bay and October Sun at Bowmore Distillery, Isle of Islay.

That's it for this week, I hope I haven't missed anything significant. If I have, that's what the comments are there for. Before I finish of course the link to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with Aberdeen: The Battle For Union Terrace Gardens. That's all folks, good night!
