Islay Blogging Roundup #218

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

So there we are, two weeks ago I wrote I wrote I wasn't expecting many readers/viewers over the next two weeks, I believe from later tonight this should change again. Team GB has won just under 30 Gold Medals (or did they make it 30 in the end?) while I've just opened yet another blog, called Armin Bakes Bread. Yes, really. But this entry isn't about bread, it is about Islay mentions in the blogs this week:

Let me start with some four legged visitors to Islay, dogs to be precise: Kate's (more from Kate later) dog Bruce writes about his adventures on Islay in humans and other creatures. While Bruce is now back on the mainland Daisy and Holly have just arrived on Islay, We've Arrived!

Bruce's owner Kate also writes about Islay in Islay half marathon and Islay light. Gavin Macfie went Journeying on the Isle of Islay while Bri writes about Lord of the Isle, Sons of the Devil and Saga of the Bangs.

A visitor from Colonsay writes about the 166th Islay Jura & Colonsay Show 2012, you can also find pictures from the event on Ron's blog in 166th Islay Show Pictures. Ron also has Easter Ellister Show Report and Pictures and ask visitors to Review your Holiday Accommodation in the Islay Accommodation Directory.

I'm fairly sure I mentioned the first launch a while ago, this week Scottish Coastal Rowing writes about Islay’s second skiff launched in record time. In a similar way A Guide to Sea Fishing the West of Scotland and Cooking your Catch brings us Shore Fishing on the Isle of Islay: July 2012 (Part Three). The Islay History blog I introduced last week has more interesting posts in Weavers Cottage, Bowmore, 1772 and Callumkill.

Some Islay whisky: The always enjoyable Malt Impostor brings us An Impostor Abroad: Stephen visits Lagavulin. I'm not sure if I've linked to an Icelandic blog before, Tímarím writes about Ralfy Mitchell – Ungt viskí frá Islay. Not entirely sure when they will be leaving, but a group of Germans is announcing their Whisky-Tasting-Tour 2012 with a focus on Islay. The Coopered Tot says Ardbeg Alligator: A Soft Sweet Pussycat while The Kick It Spot exclaims Kilchoman Machir Bay – GOOD!

The bird- and wildlife: On the Islay Birds blog Ian got some help from Michal who spotted Choughs before being distracted by the Islay Show. Back at home they had a first with a Pied Wagtail on the bird table. The INHT blog reports from the Kilchoman Gala and the INHT at Show Day. They also went Exploring Sandy Shores at Killinallan and had a Butterfish Bonanza. John Armitage say the Autumn exodus underway. 11.8.2012.

To finish as usual the pictures: Mark on his gallery brings us The Round Church, Bowmore and some Ripening Barley, he continues with the latter on his blog in his Image of the week. Ron has a variety of views on his picture blog including Remains of the OA Church at Risabus, Port Charlotte Pier and Black Rock Islay. The Scottish Islands Explorer picks up some of my pictures in Looking Up while the INHT blog has a picture of Roe Deer. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for Out on Sea with the Islay Ferry and Approaching Port Askaig, Isle of Islay.

That's is for this week, before I finish the link to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with Olympics, Music and Politics. Good night!

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
