Video of Basking Sharks near Colonsay

Colonsay Excursions written in stencil

After that incredibly stupid story about the ‘shark attack’ off Islay (you can't really call it an attack if the shark in question is probably scared and fights back after you hauled it on to a boat…) something much more sensible: A yachtsman filmed a Basking Shark coming close to a yacht near Islay's neighbour Colonsay. Curious about the visitors may be?

Certainly an impressive fish, according to the Wikipedia entry for Basking Shark it it the second largest living fish, ‘on average, the adult basking shark reaches a length of 6–8 metres (20–26 ft) and weighs about 5.2 tonnes (5.1 long tons; 5.7 short tons).’

I hope you'll enjoy watching this encounter as much as I did.
