Some Old Islay Aerial Pictures

Islay Pictures in stencil

When the Britain from Above website was launched I was hoping for a few old views of Islay, so far I haven't been lucky in finding any though. Only ones from Argyll close enough to be of interest are of Kiloran of Colonsay. This evening I found a few on The National Collection of Aerial Photography which might make their way into the other collection at some point:

You can find some of them via a search for Islay. The most interesting ones I found are Bowmore/Bogh Mr, Killarow and Kilmeny, ARGYLL, Scotland, Frame SAW019887 and Seafield, Killarow and Kilmeny, ARGYLL, Scotland, Frame SAW019888, both from October 1948.

After some further digging I also found Bowmore/Bogh Mr, Killarow and Kilmeny, ARGYLL, Scotland, Sortie M_105 / NLA 021, Frame 00607 and Ronnachmore, Killarow and Kilmeny, ARGYLL, Scotland, Sortie M_105 / NLA 021, Frame 00309 from November 1941. Moving away from Bowmore slightly I managed to find Machrie River, Kildalton, ARGYLL, Scotland, Sortie M_105 / NLA 021, Frame 00316 which includes the airport as it looked in November 1941. Moving the other way across Loch Indaal I've found Loch Gorm Ho, Kilchoman, ARGYLL, SCOTLAND, Sortie 106G_UK_0049, Frame 3305 which covers Bruichladdich in May 1946.

Last for today will be Rockside, Kilchoman, ARGYLL, SCOTLAND, Sortie 106G_UK_0049, Frame 3364 and Port Wemyss/Bun Othan, Kilchoman, ARGYLL, SCOTLAND, Sortie 106G_UK_0049, Frame 3442 also from May 1946. With some more digging I'm sure there's plenty more…
