Islay Blogging Roundup #236

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Well then, time for the first Islay blogging roundup of 2013. Quite a few posts will still be about 2012 of course, but there will also be a few for 2013. Some of the regulars are still on holiday, others are busy blogging already. Here are the Islay, Jura and Colonsay mentions in the blogs I've come across this week:

Rachel wishes Bliadhna mhath Ùr. Big Stu writes about his Return to Islay with the winter weather and Hogmanay. Hugh Tooby wishes Happy New Year from Jura and has a picture of Islay from southern end of Jura New Year’s Day 2013. Turned out there were quite a few Jura posts on his blog as was the local GP for a few months.

Justin Tyers writes about a Holiday of a lifetime…? while Ron has news about the Book John Ramsay of Kildalton Available Online

On die genussverstärker we find a Reisebericht: Kilchoman Destillerie while Dramstats has a Kilchoman Inaugral 100% Islay review. Tim Roberts looks back at Islay April 2012 in his new blog. The girlichef writes about her 12 "Would-Be" Blog Posts of 2012, nr 11 and 12 are Islay related. Jakob has New Year’s celebration for whisky lovers. Ron has a long video of The Wine Down with Simon Brooking & John Campbell. Just Peat It from Finland offers the Smokeheadbangers Choice. In On se fait la Belle !? (Tourbé) a French (or Belgian?) beer blog compares a beer with an Islay single malt.

Over on Colonsay the colonsaycroftess claims It’s that most wonderful time of the year. A reaction to the ferry review on Island at the Edge-Colonsay- Facing the Abyss?

Birdwatching and wildlife, starting with the Islay Birds blog: Ian wishes all the best for 2013 with various bird sightings and the first sightings of 2013. There's also a picture of an Iceland Gull from Pete Clements. On the Islay Natural History blog we find more pictures of the Iceland Gull by Peter Roberts. Carl also noticed that the Snowdrops are coming. John Armitage starts the year with Almost a false start! before wondering Is this pessimism or impatience?

And as usual the pictures to finish: Mark Unsworth's Image of the week shows the sun bursting through the clouds over Loch Indaal on Friday. On the INHT blog a variety of pictures including Loch Gorm - Kirsty Wither, Portnahaven and Cow - Rockside Dunes. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for the Laphroaig Distillery Still House Panorama, the Ireland Coast from Islay and the obvious October Sunrise in Machir Bay, Isle of Islay.

That's all for the first roundup of 2013. For the bigger picture the Scottish Roundup is back as well from the Christmas break, this week with A catch up, a look back on 2012 and hopes, aspirations and predictions for 2013. Have a great week!

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
