Islay Blogging Roundup #248

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Today in a week I will be back at the cottage after the first walk of the Islay walking week 2013. Fingers crossed the weather will be decent. This weekend saw some nice weather for the first time in what felt like ages in West Berkshire. Yesterday I went to Paices Wood, a local parkland, to see if any wildlife was around. There wasn't much. On the way back I stopped near the River Kennet to fly the quadcopter as it turned out to be a calm evening. As I was setting up I noticed a light coloured bird silently approaching. A Barn Owl flew past less than 10 yards away, nonchalantly looking at me as it passed. Only problem for me? The camera was in the car. Anyway… On with the Islay mentions in the blogs this week:

I'm not sure if this is from a current or older visit, Heikki writes On the Way to Islay. Definitely a few years back (but only blogged recently) are the Aho brothers Highlights of the 2006 whisky pilgrimage trip to Islay.

Philip from Germany writes Laphroaig QA Cask: Neues für den Duty Free-Markt while dramaticwhisky has Bunnahabhain – no smoke with this fire. In an April Fools I didn't see in time for last week's roundup the Master of Malt brings us Cocks' Scotch Eggs. At Bruichladdich they said Welcome To The Harvey Family and report on The 2012 Barley Harvest.

On Am Bothan we read it's her HALFWAY, there's also an entry about SHEEP. Ron announces a New Islay Event Calendar.

Yesterday I wrote about the Timelapse Views from The Dower House, today I found the blog that goes with it: The Dower House Restoration Project. Two entries so far: To Islay and Back Again - A Mission and New YouTube Channel.

Sad news from Islay at the Edge, reporting from Colonsay about R.I.P Ziggy. Also some sad new get a mention by Neil Gordon-Orr: Iain Banks and Islay.

The birdwatching and wildlife: On the Islay Birds blog we find a picture of a Skylark, the rain statistics for March combined with birding news and a long collection of sightings. On the INHT blog we find pictures incl wildlife from a Loch Càm and Loch Drolsay walk, also Larch buds showing slow spring progress. John Armitage decribes his sightings in Return of the wanderer. 4.4.2013.

The pictures, on the INHT blog a stunning view of Port Charlotte this morning (well, Thursday) and Gulls following the plough at Rockside Farm this afternoon. Mark Unsworth's IMAGE OF THE WEEK takes us to Saligo Bay in the morning. James Deane has been out and about, bringing us a picture of snowy hills on Islay and links to more. James Collett shows a Sunset From Bowmore Harbour and views of the Mull of Oa. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Ardbeg Distillery Panorama (2), Log on the beach in Machir Bay and Evening Sky Over Gruinart, Isle of Islay.

That's all I've got for this week, more when I'm back from the walking week. Also check the Scottish Roundup for what's happening in the blogs around Scotland. Good night!
