Islay Book Festival 2013 coming up
The end of summer is rapidly approaching now, several of the end of summer festivals are now coming up, starting with this year's Islay Book Festival. As usual it takes place on the first weekend of September, this year the dates are 7th and 8th of September. And again they've managed to invite some very interesting guests:
For the adults they include crime writer Val McDermid, travel writer and illustrator Mairi Hedderwick, writer Janice Galloway, Scots language expert Matthew Fitt and leading land ownership authority Andy Wightman (for some local interest he recently blogged David Cameron, William Astor and the Bahamas). Some great variety and a lot of interesting topics there, I think there should be something for everyone.
For children there are Keith Charters and Margaret Ryan as well as the already mentioned Mairi Hedderwick and Matthew Fitt. I must admit, even though I'm a grown up for quite some time now, I'd love to hear Matthew talking about Eejits, some mingin medicine and Asterix in Scots.
As usual there will also be excellent home baking, so both the body and the mind will be taken care of.
Some of the authors are active on Twitter, so with a bit of luck we might see a few ‘live’ updates from the festival. The ones I've found are Val McDermid (@valmcdermid) and Andy Wightman (@andywightman).
