Islay Blogging Roundup #261

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Yesterday was the last day of the (meteorological) summer, so this makes this the first Islay blogging roundup of this year's autumn (or fall for my American readers). First Christmas offerings probably in the shops shortly. But before that first what the blogs have been saying about Islay and Jura (and West Loch Tarbert) in the last week of summer (and the first day of autumn):

Again I'll start with the Islay visits. The Seven Whiskyteers (which I think are Dutch) bring us first chapter - Islay 2013, Chapter One - day one, Chapter one - day two, Chapter One - day three, Chapter one - Day four, Chapter one - day five and finally Chapter One - Day Six. Mark Roxburgh and friends visited Islay 2013. Via Day 69-70 – Rest And Be Thankful James Calbraith travels to Islay for Day 71 – A Wee Dram. Aleria's Great Adventures has taken them to the waters around Islay, described in Aleria's Jaunt to Scotland: 25 July 2013, Oronsay and Sound of Islay, Scotland and Aleria's Jaunt to Scotland:28 July 2013, Port Ellen, Islay, Scotland to Mulroy Bay, Ireland. BajorRon just writes Scotland2013: Islay! while Pete went walking On the Roof of Islay and a new Munro – Mid Summer Ramblings. Dog and owner went on A Quick Hop In The Romahome To The Island Of Jura. Gordon Homer has summarised his Islay Summer Visit 2013. Al and Moz’s Mini Tour of the Inner Hebrides III-V also took them to Islay.

Douglas continues his journey on West Loch Tarbert for a different view of many places Islay visitors will have seen on their journey: A fair wind in West Loch Tarbert, A busy waterway at Kennacraig, A tale of two islands, one ferry and two captains, Time for a sharp exit at West Loch Tarbert Pier and Better Days #16 in West Loch Tarbert are the posts this week.

Some whisky related posts: Joshua Feldman reviews Rob Gard's recently published book in Distilling Rob is a memoir straight from the heart. The Malt Impostor tastes The Single Cask Nation Laphroaig 6 Year (750 ml end of summer bottle) and The Kilchoman Machir Bay 2013 (30 ml Kickstarter kickstart). Some wine drinkers from Germany taste the Laphroaig Cask Strength Batch 005 Februar 2013. The Bruichladdich News page reports from the Rockside Farm Barley Harvest and has thoughts from Jim McEwan on 50% ABV. The Pyromaniacs say Islay Have A Dram Please and Malt Mileage has a very comprehensive tasting of the Laphroaig Triple Wood. The Whisky Catholic has a Lagavulin Visit Recap.

Ron writes about a Petition to Review Policy of Wild Geese while the Bruichladdich News blog has information about Evidence For Scotland'S First People?

The birdwatching and wildlife: Tom and Jo have been back, listing their sightings on Islay. Some of them also went into Ian's Islay Birds blog, where this week we find news and a picture of the Wryneck, a report from the Shelduck release and a look back at the British Birdfair. The INHT blogs brings us caterpillars from Bàgh an Dà Dhoruis, findings from a Fungal foray and Photos from Nicolien Brandenburg this week.

Some Islay inspired drawings by a highly untrained Canadian doodler trying to be creative every day on Taking it One Line at a Time: #322 of 365 Daily Drawings, #321 of 365 Daily Drawings and #320 of 365 Daily Drawings.

To end as usual the pictures: Ron writes about the Islay Photography at Holyrood Exhibition and shares Paps of Jura from Bowmore and Bridgend East Tower near Islay House. Charles Kenwright has more Islay pictures with Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, Port Ellen, Portnahaven, Big Sky, RSPB Nature Reserve, Loch Gruinart and Tràigh Bhàn, Islay, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Cloud inversion at the Paps of Jura from High Road, Sound of Islay with wreck and lighthouse and June evening near Laphroaig, Isle of Islay.

Well, that's all for this week. For the bigger picture head over to the Scottish Roundup, this week with Even Pollyanna would be really hacked off by all this unfair play. Good night!

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
