Islay Blogging Roundup #288

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Another busy and fairly productive weekend coming to an end. Completed a large chunk of a Google MOOC course Making Sense of Data today. After baking rolls yesterday (which I do fairly regularly) I decided to be more adventurous today and experimented with a whisky and hazelnut bread (using Bruichladdich Rocks Islay single malt). It turned out very nice, just cut it open and started eating it. Nice nutty taste with a hint of whisky. And on that note over to this week's Islay blogging roundup:

If the rumour turns out to be true the German Whisky Experts blog might have landed a scoop with Neue Destillerie in Port Ellen (new distillery in Port Ellen), claiming that a new distillery is being planned just east of Port Ellen. A 10th distillery on Islay? If that's not true certainly Bruichladdich is investing, announcing their New Warehousing Proposals.

Keeping to the whisky theme there were quite a few Islay single malt tasting entries this week: Harvinaista herkkua - Ardbeg Galileo vs. Ardbog on a Finnish blog. Bunnahabhain 18 YO on the Smoky Dram and a Kilchoman tasting with Anthony Wills on the Whisky Ledger. The WhiskyRant shares Octomore 5.1 and 4.2 Comus reviews. Thomas and Tone launched their new blog Whisky Saga and there are a few Islay ones on it including Bowmore 10 YO The Devil’s Casks, Caol Ila 12 YO – the winner amongst the Ladies and Caol Ila 12 YO – En fin klisjé?. Whisky a Day enjoys Whisky #60 – Elements of Islay Pe5 Cask Strength Single Malt.

Last week I wrote about the Visit Scotland Islay video, this week the couple featured in it have written about their experiences in Visiting Islay With Visit Scotland…And A Camera Crew

Locksands Life visited Port Charlotte and Lucille Debauche has written a poem about James Brown of Octomore Farm fame. Embrace Scotland mentions a nice Islay beach (as well as Kiloran Bay on Colonsay) in Tips from the Locals: The Argyll Isles. Contributions to the IECBS are Still climbing…. (just over a week to go now). On the K&L Uncorked blog I found Islay: The Wave, Fine Dining, & Alluring Beauty

As usual some birdwatching and wildlife: Ian Bennell's Scotland - 8-13.3.14 includes a visit to Islay. Philippa Mitchell writes about her progress in Invitations, flyers and the last painting. The Islay Birds blog shares Scott and Aigas birders last update, sightings by the Bolton birders and the most recent sightings this weekend. Sad news from the RSPB Islay blog, We lost a good one today… Thanks for all the blogging from me as well Amy, hope to see you again on Islay some time!

Of course there were also some pictures: James Collett takes us to Bowmore in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Purple. Ron shares Daffodils in Bridgend Wood, Snow on the Paps and a big shower. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Beach and rocks at Traigh Bhan, Dark Paps of Jura from the Islay ferry and Wind and waves in Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay

And that's it for this week, more next week. Good night.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
