Islay Blogging Roundup #291

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

After the break because of me being away for the Islay walking week it is time again for another Islay blogging roundup. It's also been a fairly wet and mostly cloudy week in West Berkshire from where I'm writing this, while I believe it's been mostly sunny in Islay again. I think the weather is trying to give me a message. But back to the blogs and their Islay mentions:

Let me start with a few Islay whisky related posts, the maltfreak writing The Pleasures of Promise: Kilchoman’s 2007 Vintage Single Malt Scotch Whisky. On WhiskySpeller we can read about a journey which involves quite a bit of Islay in .1 - Planting the barley - 2012 and before, .2 - Growing (pains) - 2012 / 2013, .3 - Malting - 2013 and .4 - Milling - 2013. Whiskynotes from Belgium writes about Bowmore Small Batch (+ chocolate), similarly Malt Review in Bowmore Chocolate. Whiskyundfrauen from Germany has Tasting Notes: Laphroaig Select. A rough boy tamed and a Swedish blog writes about the Darach Ur. Good news on the Bruichladdich News blog, Mashing Has Started Again.

Brian the woodcrafter went on A Little Trip, where The Crossing took him to the Island. He also visited the Monument and the Lordship of the Isles. On Stone Country we can read about a visit to one of Islay's neighbours, The Isle of Gigha. Back to Islay a visitor writes Isle of Islay: more than whisky. MP Alistair Carmichael after Hitting the road went Back to his roots. Rebecca belatedly writes about The Queens of Finlaggan and Simon went In search of rusty metal on Islay & Jura. Simon also went on Evans' Walk - A wander across Jura and Beinn an Oir - No view & NO jelly babies!!. Not to forget Beinn Mhor - A brief interlude from the water of life.

On her new Islay Welly Walks blog Becky writes about the Islay Welly Walks Launch and a Killinallan to Gortantoid walk. Ron writes about the New Lifeboat Station and RNLI Shop on Islay and his Stunning Trip with Islay Sea Adventures. The Dower House crew (I finally met two of them during the walk up Beinn Bheigier) shares …and then the sun came out! and Easter On Islay.

On to the birdwatching and wildlife, where Tony reports from his moth trapping during A week on Islay. On the Islay Birds blog we find John's and Ken's sightings, birds spotted during Mary's walkislay walk, more sightings from walkislay walks and visitors and Michal's sightings. The INHT blog shares Sornasairidh from Ballachlaven, a Green Hairstreak and Oil Beetle and announces a Job Vacany at INHT. John Armitage writes about The E-petition......a little bit of background and The E-petition.........current thinking, future action. He also notices More departures than arrivals. 19.4.2014. On the RSPB Islay blog a number of great entries, including One for the Osprey fans, Rooks, Oa otter and quite spectacular Golden eagle, The Oa. Also Philippa announced Exhibition open! (and yes, I did have a look) and The Goose that laid a Golden Egg. Gordon Yates has been back to Islay again this week and writes about it in Godwits and Surf.

To close as usual the pictures, starting with something a little bit different, Mark Unsworth explaining his Shooting Technique for the Botanist. Ron has fluffy clouds over Loch Gruinart and sun breaking through over Port Ellen. James Collett had a number of nice Islay pictures including Ardnahoe Loch, Islay at Sunset, Lower Killeyan, Isle of Islay and the Machir Bay Shipwreck, Islay. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Bruichladdich and Barnacle Geese, Swan on its nest, Walkers at the wreck in Machir Bay and Lunch with a view on Beinn Bheigier, Isle of Islay.

That's all for today, I hope you found a few interesting posts again. More next week.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
