Islay Blogging Roundup #296

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

And so June arrived. Not a bad day in West Berkshire from where I'm writing this, some nice sunshine at the Kennet and Avon Canal earlier this afternoon. I hope that's a good sign for my next Islay visits not long from now. But now over to the Islay mentions in the blogs this week, a variety of topics again:

The main topic this week was of course the festival, so I'll start with that (Having already mentioned some of them in Some Islay Festival Feis Ile 2014 Updates on Wednesday): The Master of Malt blog continued with Feis Ile 2014, Tales From The Isle - Bowmore Day & Gartbreck, Feis Ile 2014, Tales From The Isle - Kilchoman & Jura Day and Feis Ile 2014, Tales From The Isle - Bunnahabhain Day. The Spellers followed from home with Feis Ile 2014 - Laphroaig Day, Feis Ile - 2014 Bowmore Day, Feis Ile 2014 - Jura & Kilchoman Day, Feis ile 2014 - Bunnahabhain day and Feis Ile 2014 - Ardbeg day.

Moving on to other topics the other visits: Not Islay itself (I think that will follow at some point), but the journey to Islay is nicely described in Inveraray on a Swedish blog. EF is strictly speaking at the festival, but writing about other aspects in Scottish Sunshine. Mike Jutan travelled Scotland 2014 Day 2: Loch Lomond to Kennacraig and arrived Scotland 2014 Day 3: Islay and the Bruichladdich Whisky Tour (Day 4 etc still to come). Miss Whisky has features about two Islay distilleries from her visit, Bowmore Distillery and Kilchoman Distillery. Jan writes Trip To Scotland (Islay, Jura, Speyside) May 13/May 25 - An Impression while Whisky and Wisdom spent Some quality time at Jura Distillery. A German family documents their visit in a travel blog, the Islay related entries are Endlich wieder Whisky, Wander- und Wildlife Tag, Whiskytag – Tasting for everyone and Sag niemals nie: Lagavulin again. And Words of Whisky puts out the Out-of-Office: Off to Islay, Campbeltown, Arran and Jura.

Becky reports from her Islay Welly Walks - Upper Killeyan to Lower Killeyan. On the Port Ellen Primary Our Learning Blog we can read about P1/2 Explorers, where P1/2 Explore the beach, go Over the Ard and explore Bridgend.

There were also a few Islay whisky reviews: The WhiskyGospel has Whisky Review – Bunnahabhain Sgeul na mara (Feis Ile 2013 bottling) and Whisky Review – Port Ellen 25 Year Old 1982 Old Malt Cask. At Whiskyfun Serge was Tasting another three Ardbeg. Booze Dancing shares a Whisky Review – Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Scottish Barley. The Malt Impostor has a taste of The Ardbeg Auriverdes (750 ml gift of the Magi bottle).

The wildlife and birdwatching: Gordon Yates has been back, reporting from a week on Islay in Greenland Bound (admittedly the title is slightly misleading, but then again it makes sense when you read it). On the Islay Birds blog we find sightings by the Rochdale birder, a report from the Bird Nerds meeting and the sightings from an outing to Texa. The INHT blog writes about the Hedgehog, The Search for the Spring Squill and reports about Preparing for Opening Day. The RSPB Islay blog has Crexcellent… sightings, a Marsh Fritillary and reports of a Heatwave, Islay style.

To finish again the pictures, where James Collett participated in the A Word A Week Photo Challenge: Orange with a nice Islay picture. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Loch Gorm in the gloaming, A Sheep surrounded by Choughs and of course the 1,000th post since the relaunch: Walking into Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay.

Good night, more next week.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
