Islay Blogging Roundup #304

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Sunday afternoon again after a rather quiet weekend for me. Updated the Islay Pictures photoblog to the latest software yesterday and tinkered with the design, adding a header picture. I picked one of me taking pictures in Saligo Bay, courtesy of my sister Imke. But now over to the task at hand, this week's Islay mentions in the blogs:

A few Islay whisky posts: The Whisky Moose tasted the Kilchoman 100% Islay - 4th Edition - 50% while the Buffalo Whisky Guild went for The Classic Laddie Scottish Barley. The Pyromaniacs experienced an Ardbegeddon. On the Bruichladdich News blog a heads up for Cbs News '60 Minutes' To Feature Jim McEwan. I mentioned it previously, now Peter Moser has an update about his Kalender 2015: Islay & Jura – für den guten Zweck IJSCF – jetzt kaufen!. Caskstrength.net has The A.L.S. Challenge (that's Ardbeg's Latest Supernova) while the GrapeScot just says Bruichladdich rocks!

Malte from Sweden visited Islay in June, his blog posts about it so far cover MALTE I SKOTTLAND 4 -9 juni 2014 Dag 2, MALTE I SKOTTLAND 4 -9 juni 2014 Dag 3 and MALTE I SKOTTLAND 4 – 9 juni 2014 Dag 4. Johnnie of The Nosing Arse also went distillery touring on Islay, so far covering Johnnie Does Bowmore and Johnnie Does Laphroaig.

Mashtun and Meow (that's Jim and Laura) has a series of posts about their Islay visit starting with Islay 2014: Bowmore Open Day. This was followed by Islay 2014: Bruichladdich Warehouse Experience, Favourite Pubs: The Lochside Hotel and Islay 2014: Lagavulin. I believe there's more to come.

On Voyages of Norman James we can read about a passing visit in The Sound of Iona and Loch Tarbert, Isle of Jura and Islay Sound and Port Ellen. Hopefully they will return for a longer visit soon. Another visitor by boat writes on Blaze Around, where we find pics day 46 Barbae Dounie to Jura, pics day 47 Jura to Gigha to Islay, pics day 48-49 Port Ellen and pics day 50 Port Ellen (Islay) to Campbeltown.

The Scottish Islands Explorer writes about Port Askaig in Postcode Preferences. On Wednesday the Earth Science Picture of the day was of Creag Mhor - The Rhinns of Islay. Ron wrote a Wee Guide to Beaches on Islay while Becky to German walkers up Beinn Bheigier - "Wenn Engel reisen, lacht der Himmel".

Moving on to the birdwatching and wildlife, the Islay Birds blog starts the month with the rainfall stats and Bob and Martin's sightings. There are also various visitor sightings and sightings from RSPB walks on Islay and Jura. On the INHT blog we find a wee taster for a walk to Lily Loch.

To finish as usual the pictures again: A Swedish site has pictures of Vackra Islay, Skottland (according to Google Translate vackra means beautiful). Ron shares a rainbow at Persabus and a sunset at Saligo. A different kind of picture (it's a painting) in Sarah's birthday present for her dad. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked The old bakery in Bowmore (mainly for all the wonderful responses), the Overcast day in the dunes at Machir Bay and Mull and Colonsay seen across Loch Gorm, Isle of Islay.

That's all for this week, more next week. Good night!

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
