Islay Blogging Roundup #307

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

That's a very nice long weekend (I had two days off work) coming to an end for me, back to work on Monday. Got some admin done on Thurday and Friday (made good progress on the dreaded tax return) before enjoying the weekend. Went to the local nature reserve where among other things I managed to get these shots of a Dragonfly. But now over to this week's Islay mentions in the blogs in the Islay blogging roundup:

A few Islay whisky mentions: A German blog titles Wolf im Schafspelz about The Ileach whisky. The man with the annoying opinions has yet more, this week about the Laphroaig 10 and the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. A Norwegian blog tastes the Laphroaig 1989 23 år 48,9 % while a Finnish blog has the Ardbeg 1990/2007 Airigh Nam Beist 46%. The Whiskyboys have the Bowmore – The Devil’s Cask Small Batch Release II and Scotch & Sci-Fi for the Whisky Review – Kilchoman Port Cask. Not only about whisky but I still think it fits here, Whisky Advocate speaks with Jackie Thomson — In 140 Or Less.

Moving on to the visits (which might include a few distilleries): Johnnie has been to Laphroaig and Ardbeg in previous weeks, this week Johnnie Does Kilchoman. Smallholders Claire and James continue writing about their Islay visit in Coillabus, Hill Walking On Islay, Machir Bay – Islay and Islay Whisky. The Islay visitor from Romania continues along the south coast, arriving at Ardbeg Distillery this week. Annabel (aka The Whisky Belle) brings us Tilleadh Dhachaigh – Returning home. Ape To Gentleman visited Bruichladdich: Progressive Hebridean Distillers, as did Menswear Style in Bruichladdich Distillery Visit. Mashtun and Meow share Islay 2014: Ardbeg and Ryan writes about 11-16 June – A ferry, an island, a wedding and lots of whisky.

Earlier this week we had of course the Laphroaig Live event, Ron had Laphroaig Live Tonight Here on Islay Blog, Thomas of Whisky Saga was actually at Laphroaig Live 2014 and one of the panelists so far only has the announcement of Laphroaig Live 24/9 20:00. I hope a report is going to follow.

A great update from the Dower House again, we now have Walls within walls and hot summer days!. Islay Estates has a Farming Update – Tups Come to Islay Estates. Bruichladdich proclaims The Rain Is Dead. It seems Islay Ales is getting competition (no, not really), read more in A Brief and Bitter Interlude.

Over to the birdwatching and wildlife, where we start with some Good news from Islay as population grows (that's the Chough population). The Islay Birds blog has an update about Ed's Whitefronted Geese, sightings by Bob as well as a group of Swedish visitors and Peregrines and Starlings. The INHT blog reports from the Free for Kids day! and the RSPB Islay blog a heads up for the Autumn Arrivals.

And to close of course the pictures: Islay Wildscapes is back with some great shots, I've picked Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Port Ellen and an impressive Sunset over Loch Gruinart for this week. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Waves against Saligo River, Laphroaig distillery from the Islay ferry and the Fishing boat passing between Texa and Lagavulin, Isle of Islay.

And that's all for this week, more next week. Good night!

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
