Early Christmas present: New Islay from the air video

Islay on Video written in stencil

When I was packing for my Islay holiday in November I was pondering if I should pack my quadcopter, would there be a calm day to fly it at that time of the year? I decided to take it, just in case an opportunity presented itself. This turned out to be the right decision. On the last full day of my holiday, while I was staying with Andrew and Alison at The Bowmore House a window of opportunity opened with a calm morning. Here's the finished result:

YouTube: Bowmore, Islay, with a DJI Phantom Quadcopter

Some of the views during the flight include the harbour, the already mentioned The Bowmore House, of course Bowmore distillery and from various angles The Round Church. I'm sure some of you will spot other places important to you.

I also went out to Gartbreck later that morning and had a flight there, unfortunately the wind had picked up too much by then so the footage wasn't really usable. It also didn't fit very well the footage I've used for this video. May be some other time.

While I was flying/filming a few people noticed the quadcopter and asked me if the video was going to be online. At the time I didn't know if the footage was going to be any good, so all I could say was that I was hoping to make a few people an early Christmas present. It did get a bit tight especially as I had only managed to do a quick a preview of the footage until yesterday. But then yesterday afternoon suddenly everything fell into place (and a lot of footage fell victim to the editing process, only about a quarter survived). So here's the early Christmas present I hope many of you will enjoy.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
