Islay Visitors Welcome Evening

Picture of a dancer in full fling

Yesterday evening the walkers turned out in full force at the Visitors Welcome Evening at the Islay Gaelic College in Bowmore. I estimate there were about 30-40 visitors to Islay of which approx 75% were walkers. The evening was very nice with a presentation and demonstrations of song and dance from Islay:

Iain MacPherson sang a few Gaelic (and one English) songs after leading us on the Killinallan Walk earlier in the day. Two girls danced traditional dances, very fast and elegant. Too fast for the camera to capture in the limited light (no, I didn't want to use the flash). There was more music played on the violin and the fiddle, more songs sung as well. And at the end we had the opportunity to taste Rae's Clootie Dumpling and some Islay Single Malt before the walkers won all the prizes in the raffle.

More walking today, after a heavy rain shower earlier it is now dry and the sun is breaking through. Hope to either see you on Jack's walk or hear that you went on Walter's and Beth's walk later in the day.
