Islay Ferry Deploys Fast Rescue Craft

Picture of a fast rescue craft hanging under a ship's crane

In a recent edition the Ileach reports about a fast deployment and recovery of the Fast Rescue Craft (FRC). The CalMac ferry to Islay, the ‘Hebridean Isles’, was asked to assist in an emergency where two divers had got into trouble. The crew launched the boat extremely quickly and when it transpired that the divers had been recovered took the FRC back on board very efficiently. Why am I writing about this?

Recently I read Flapsi Hapsi's account of a visit to Islay, Islay does the trick!, after noticing the departure note Off on hols! a few weeks ago. No, no mention of a Fast Rescue Craft there. But wait, yesterday there was another post: Mayday! I think you can guess what that was about.

Looks like the training they complete regularly has paid off, I've seen a launch of the boat during a ferry crossing to Islay in August 2005. A quite interesting event to watch.
