From Islay To Hamburg...

For a Triathlon. That was the journey for one Ileach. May be not all of them, but quite a few people on Islay are of the sporty type. They go cycling, swimming and running, sometimes even running up the hills on Jura. One of them the sport took all the way from Islay to Hamburg in Germany (and further):

Just a few weeks after winning the Islay Triathlon (again) Mhairi Muir travelled to Hamburg to compete in the Hamburg City Man Triathlon, the Hamburg Triathlon World Championship 2007 last weekend. Mhairi finished 91st overall out of 618 and 28th out of 85 in her age group in a total time of 02:25:25 in the ITU Age Group World Championships, Olympic Distance (which is quite a long distance, I think).

This wasn't her first world championship, having competed in Switzerland last year. She's been successful in a number of events since joining the Royal Navy in 2002. Congratulations, Mhairi!

PS: I've tried to find a picture of Mhairi in action in Hamburg, but no luck so far. A search on Flickr for Hamburg triathlon gives a lot of results, but I haven't been able to positively identify Mhairi on any of them. As of writing this there are no pictures on the official race photo website either.
