Friday Islay, Gigha and Jura Picture (65)

Three pictures for the price of one. How does that sound? Usually you get one Friday Islay picture, sometimes two. This week I thought I give you three before I really sign off for a few days (probably). One of Islay, one of Jura and three of Gigha. No, that's not five, still only three. All of them were taken from Gigha and have at least something from Gigha in them.

This morning I took the 10:00 ferry from Tayinloan to Gigha. It was quite cloudy after a very bright early morning. But it was at least dry. I had decided to take my car over to Gigha, which would make it easier to see some of the places I was hoping to see. My first stop was Achamore Gardens, a place I had visited previously. I remembered the viewpoint and decided to revisit it. Certainly a wise decision as it was quite clear despite the clouds. Nice view over to Islay!

I then drove down to the south pier (and the air strip, more about that some other time). Just had a look around and enjoyed the sun starting to break through. For lunch I drove back to the Gigha Hotel, a simple lunch (a basket of chips) was then enjoyed outside in the garden of the hotel. After lunch I quickly walked over to Rudha Chinn Mhoir beach. A tiny beach, but with great views over to Kintyre and yachts moored off Gigha. Not to forget the ferry coming in from Tayinloan.

For the afternoon I drove up to the north of Gigha. Walking it would definitely have been too far and cycling would have been tricky in the amount of time I had left. Especially because it was worth it, the views were amazing. The clouds had lifted for some great views of the Paps of Jura. After almost every corner another great view. I walked down to the Twin Beaches at Eilean Garbh, taking quite a few pictures. Until I ran into a problem: The battery in my camera died, but the spare battery was... back in the car. That'll teach me to always take it with me!

I then returned to Ardminish to catch the last ferry to the mainland. After a very nice drive back to Tarbert with some nice evening sun I'm now at the West Loch Hotel, where I also had my dinner.

Tomorrow morning I'm finally really off to Islay, meaning there won't be any updates at least for a few days, but possibly until Sunday next week. You know what you can do in the meantime.
