Islay and Other April Fools

Islay News in stencil

Good morning, back to serious news and Islay blogging. Well, kind of. As most of you will have realised the news that Bruichladdich is to open Portnahaven Islay Distillery was an April Fools joke. Regular readers will have come to expect one after 2007, 2008 and 2009. Was there anything else out there?

To start with I don't think Gin Genie on the Bruichladdich Blog is one. They've got the toys, they've been dabbling with rum for a while (admittedly not distilling it themselves) and I've heard the rumours about it for quite a while.

If you speak German you can try the ardblog and the Bruichladdich WMD III entry. While it might just be true I'm rather suspicious as I can't seem to find any other mentions not referring to this entry.

Anything else? The WHISKYhost Blog has a great summary of whisky related April Fools in What did I learn this April Fools' Day? It includes a New Committee Only Ardbeg Release and Serge Valentin's new Manager's Choice (incl a few Islays).

Slightly further afield the RSPB had a good one: Exhausted polar bear washed up on Isle of Mull and Mull polar bear re-found (see also Well, that was fun!).

If I missed anything please leave a note in the comments. Until the next edition next year…
