Friday Islay Picture #148 - Rhuvaal from Oronsay

Friday Islay Picture in stencil

Slowly but surely getting back into the routine of daily life after the great time I had on Islay during the Islay Walking Week 2010. Meaning it's finally time for a Friday Islay picture again, after all the last one I posted was three weeks ago. It's a view of the north eastern corner with Rhuvaal lighthouse, seen from one of Islay's neighbours, Oronsay:

Picture of a view across a wide sound between three islands, the islands in the distance just visible through the haze

I took this picture during our excursion to Colonsay and more importantly Oronsay, the view is from the track to Oronsay priory. It was quite hazy during the day, this is one of the better views of Islay (and Jura) I managed to capture. I think the haze actually adds to the atmosphere. I believe the lochan is called ‘Lochan Chille moire’. The small island in the foreground is either ‘Eilean Ghaoideamal’ or ‘Eilean an Eoin’, I believe it's the first but I'm not sure. And of course that's Rhuvaal lighthouse on Islay, right at the entrance to the Sound of Islay.

Of course I'll post a larger version of the picture (larger as in more than twice a big) to the Islay Pictures photoblog on Saturday morning. It will join the pictures I've already posted under the walkislay_2010 tag this week. While there are no walkers in the picture it was taken during a walk of the walking week.

With that I'm leaving you for today, wishing you a great weekend! Oh, and this post was supported by a very nice wee dram of Kilchoman Spring 2010 Release Islay single malt whisky. Thought I make some of you a bit jealous…
