Return from the Islay Beaches

Islay Fun in stencil

Back to Islay blogging here. After two mixed weeks with some very bad days (unfortunately I fell ill for a few days half way through my stay) luckily more than overcompensated by several fantastic days and experiences I'm back in Aldermaston Wharf. So which memories (and pictures) did I bring back from this ‘summers’ Islay visit? To start with two crossings with the new Islay ferry MV Finlaggan:

The new ferry certainly provides a smooth ride (if it isn't held up by teething problems…), I'm still not convinced by the ‘bling’ interior. More pictures and video to follow.

Then of course there was the beach rugby:

Same as in previous years it was a fantastic day. Great games, great people, great entertainment. Again more pictures to follow once I've had the time to sort through them.

I also spent quite a lot of time at Machir Bay, to keep with the beach theme:

Many more beach pictures to follow as well.

And apart from the beaches?

Met many many people and unfortunately missed a few. Listened to some great traditional music at the Port Charlotte Hotel (video to follow if all goes to plan). Visited a few distilleries and bought some whisky, some pictures to follow. Had a look at the works at Port Ellen pier, some pictures to follow. Met with Roland to learn what's new with The Islay hotel in Port Ellen, more about that to follow. Went on a great evening walk north of Saligo Bay, more of that to follow. And probably many other things I forgot to list just now.

More about all that and a general return to normal Islay blogging over the next few days and weeks.
