Islay Blogging Roundup #228

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

That's a quite busy weekend coming to an end, not as much time spent on Islay projects as I had hoped. In the interest of balance I went out for a nice Autumn Afternoon Walk in Paices Wood, Aldermaston followed by a Rainy Sunset near Aldermaston yesterday. Today it was time for a double shift of baking, Another Batch of Homemade Shortbread followed by my latest bread experiment, a Three Flour Roasted Hazelnuts & Poppy Seeds Bread. All that done it's time for the Islay blogging roundup, the Islay, Jura and Colonsay mentions in the blogs this week:

With the clocks having gone back last night many will relax with a wee dram of Islay single malt in the dark evenings: The German what a drink! blog tastes Wiedervorlage Islay: Kilchoman while Jürgen recalls his Islay Tour 2012: Need For Peat!. The Whisky Online Blog has A Momentary Lapse Of Islay while Geoffrey Kleinman at Drink Spirits has Behind the Scenes at Lagavulin Islay Whisky to offer. Thomas from Norway has a Rapport fra Whisky Fagmesse 2012, where he met Joanne from Bruichladdich. Josh has a review of what he calls Watercolour whisky – Big Peat.

A bit of culture? Ron has a nice entry about the Islay Gaelic Choir Performs Songs of Historic Islay Battle. On the Our Learning Blog of Port Ellen Primary we can read about SCOT-A-LAND and the PORT ELLEN PRIMARY SCHOOL BEACH CLEAN!!!

On his Jura blog Ron writes about Heavy Showers over Sound of Jura. We might not hear from the colonsaycroftess for a while, as she announces I may be gone some time…………

This time of year is of course one of the best for birdwatching, Lyndon Lomax posts pictures from An October visit to Islay. Rachel Ann has another entry about her time on Islay, Whisky & Whales while Andrew writes reports of the Red-breasted Goose before his Islay – last day. The Islay Birds blog has a picture of the Red breasted Goose as well as one of a Snow Bunting. There were also extensive updates from visiting birders. On the Islay Natural History Trust blog we can read about Becky's Beinn Bheigier Circumnavigation, see some Fungi in acidic grassland - Ballinaby and some Yellow fungi near Granny's Rock. John Armitage writes about some Winter arrivals. 23.10.2012..

And finally the pictures: Ron has Dark Clouds over Bowmore Round Church and on his photoblog a Silent Morning at Bowmore Harbour. Mark Unsworth's Image of the week is of a boat house pier. On the INHT blog we find Saligo on a Smartphone, Two views of Machir Bay and Clouds over Loch Indaal. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've decided to pick Deer Near Gortantaoid, Mala Bholsa and the Ruins at Bholsa and this morning's Allt na h-Uamha Moire, Isle of Islay.

That's it for today, time to get to bed. Good night!

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
