Islay Blogging Roundup #251 (Bank holiday edition)

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Decided to take a break yesterday as for a change we're having a sunny bank holiday weekend (at least in West Berkshire). Enjoyed the views from my fake balcony while sipping a few wee drams of Islay single malt and kicked off my ‘gardening’ experiment. But now it's back to Islay blogging, especially with Feis Ile under way. To start with a few blogs continuing where the left off last week:

After day 1-3 on TSWzine the journey continues with Bicycles And Drams: Islay Day 4 and Bicycles And Drams: Islay Day 5. There should still be more to come. Thomas Øhrbom from Norway writing on STOW I believe is planning his next Islay visit after finishing writing about the last one with Islay Tour 2013 – part 3: Lagavulin Distillery, Islay Tour 2013 – part 4: Bunnahabhain Distillery, Islay Tour 2013 – part 5: Laphroaig Distillery, Islay Tour 2013 – part 6: Ardbeg Distillery, Islay Tour 2013 – part 7: Caol Ila Distillery, Islay Tour 2013 – part 8: Bruichladdich Distillery and Islay Tour 2013 – part 9: Minner.

Now on to some Feis Ile related blogging: Laphroaig has started a Laphroaig Feis Ile Live blog including From the malt floor to the tasting and Toast to the Friends of Laphroaig. The Master of Malt crew has been very busy creating three competitions, Feis Ile - Islay Competition 1: Flag down the Master of Malt Mobile!, Feis Ile - Islay Competition 2: Peaty, The Lost Distillery Dog and Feis Ile - Islay Competition 3: Islay Treasure Hunt - Back to the Future. In addition they've started to report from their visit in Feis Ile 2013: Islay Bound, Feis Ile 2013: Day 1 (Lagavulin) - Master of Malt Mill and Feis Ile 2013: Day 2 (Bruichladdich) Magnum. Then there's Pete Favelle with Feis Ile: Lagavulin and Feis Ile: Bruichladdich. On the Bruichladdich News/Blog we find The Laddie Open Day, Islay Festival/ Feis Ile 2013 and The Laddie Open Day 2013 - Ansgar And Thomas Speller. LivingRomm Whisky only offers us FEIS ILE 2013 DAY TWO for reasons explained in the entry. Ron provides an overview of the Islay Festival 2013 Info and Programme.

Dramstats has Dram Review: Bruichladdich Black Art 3 and Dram Review 53.135 ‘Ambush by the sound of Islay’. From Sweden peat.se tastes the Octomore med decenniumlång lagringstid.

Another visitor is the SY Sirena IV, reporting Scotland at last. Ron announces that Islay TV is now on YouTube while the IET blog provides the Islay Energy Community Benefit Society Presentations. A variety of updates on the Our Learning Blog or Port Ellen Primary, including Blar, Euan The Shinty Developer and Car wash.

Of course there was some birdwatching and wildlife as well. On the Islay Birds blog we find Corncrakes, Golden Eagles and Swallows, the possible arrival of summer birdwatching and a young deer fawn. On the INHT blog we find Oystercatchers and a Pheasant by Beno Hunziker as well as excursions to The Garvellachs and Photos from Colonsay.

As usual I'll finish the roundup with the pictures. On Am Bothan we find a rather dramatic shot in MAY. Ron has waves at Kilchiaran Bay. I'm guessing Mark Unsworth has been busy with preparing for Feis Ile, no image of the week this week from him. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Bruichladdich Distillery Still House Panorama, Hazy sunset over Kildalton seen from Islay ferry and Paps of Jura from Bowmore, Isle of Islay.

That's all I've got for today, I'm sure there will be more Feis Ile in the next roundup. For the bigger picture as usual go to the Scottish Roundup, this week with Equality, empathy and a full stomach. Good night.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
