Islay Blogging Roundup #275

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Last Islay blogging roundup before Christmas. Had a very relaxing lazy long weekend incl an attempt at spotting the ISS over Aldermaston Wharf this evening. Back to the office tomorrow for two days before my Christmas break with five days off. Now for the Islay mentions in the blogs in the week before Christmas:

To start with a new photoblog launched yesterday called Islay Wildscapes. It kicked off with Caledonian MacBrayne Finlaggan: Kennacraig to Port Askaig Islay, a fitting start. Other nice posts since then include Killinallan Surf, Ardnave Point Cattle and Hail storm over Loch Gruinart.

A few Islay whisky posts, to start with the Whisky Advocate Award: Islay Single Malt of the Year went to Kilchoman. A Spanish barman in red shares The Botanist Islay Dry Gin mejor destilado 2013. The Bruichladdich News blog writes about Our Traditional Mash Tun Matters. Angels Share from Italy shares food whisky pairings in Scent of Islay: com’e’ andata and Jordan has a Whisky Review: Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2006/2012

On the Head Teacher's Blog IHS we can find a review of the year in December 2013. On a website/blog for ship models I found an interesting page about the TSMV Lochiel incl free plans of the ship. Normally Ed blogs about Geese on Islay, as his parents came visiting he made an exception and wrote about the Beauty and the beach. The Islay Whisky Chapter Austria comments Islay – getrennt vom Rest der Welt.

For the birdwatching and wildlife let me start with the Islay Birds blog again, where we find Geese numbers from Gruinart, the International Goose count numbers and an update from Grainel. On the INHT blog some sad news of a Dead dolphin. On the RSPB blog Amy writes So this is Christmas… about the jobs RSPB volunteers do on Islay while Mark shares It's a Luing thing. Richard, another volunteer, shares Islay 2 - A Christmas Carol on his blog.

And to close the pictures again. I've already mentioned the Islay Wildscapes pictures, other pictures include a wide angle view of Bowmore by Ron and a View across Loch Indaal by James Collett. Some moving pictures from Amy, who shares a video of a recent storm at Saligo Bay, also some still pictures of the coast at Tormisdale. Tim Collier shares The Character Of Islay – Beyond Geese 1. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Rhuvaal lighthouse and passing Calmac ferry, Rock formations near Mala Bholsa and Wild goats at Machir Bay, Isle of Islay.

That's all for this edition, there's still one more Islay blogging roundup to come before the end of the year. Good night for now.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
