Islay Visitors Blogging
With quite a few people visiting Islay for a variety of reasons it's not surprising that some of them are also bloggers and are writing about their visits. Some write about whisky (or whiskey if they're American or Canadian), others about music, yet others about sailing and others again about upcoming visits for Hogmanay. Here's a collection of blog entries from my bookmarks about visits to Islay:
- Ciara MacLaverty, who grew up on Islay as a teenager, returns to Islay for an Island Hogmanay and remembers bizarre nicknames.
- Ryan Aldred is a travel writer and visited Islay in 2005. I actually commented on his use of whiskey -vs- whisky more than a year ago, but only rediscovered the entry recently. Anyway, here's his travel report from April 2005: Islay, Scotland.
- More recently kaveypie (?) wrote Islay was gorgeous and later followed up with an Exceeeeedingly long Islay Trip Report. Co-traveller Pete Favelle was a bit more concise with a more whisky-oriented review of Islay in On An Island...
- This blog is a niche blog (about Islay, obviously), the next blog is about a quite different niche: John Van Horn runs the Parking Blog. But even he has to take a break from parking occasionally and travel As far from the center of the universe as you can get -- and its GREAT.
- This blog entry might be of some interest to Brian Palmer from the Ileach: Al went on an Old blokes bike tour of the Southern Hebrides, a large part of which was spent on Islay and Jura (they arrive on Islay about half way down the page).
- Away from the road and on to the water: When sailing around Britain you can sail through the Sound of Islay and stop at one of the distilleries.
- Graham Clark lives in Edinburgh and went to Islay for a wedding.
- Last but not least J.B.Zimmerman visited Islay in 2005, but I only found the entries about the one day whirlwind visit recently: Islay, On the ground, On the ground, later and Enter the Marketdroids.
I hope you find some of the blogs interesting, there should be something for everyone. Well, everyone interested in Islay.
