Islay Walking Week 2007 Updates

Today in three weeks we will be on our first walk of the 2007 WalkIslay Islay walking week. I already know of a few other people who will be there, coming from Wales, Scotland and the Netherlands. A few weeks ago I wrote about the WalkIslay 2007 programme, yesterday Ian sent me a few updates to share with you:

There is an extra walk with Andy Schofield or Angus Keys Sunday 15th at 10am starting at Upper Killyen on the Oa. The walk goes out to the American Monument and returns along the coastline. The walk is around 4 miles of moderate walking, and could take around 3 hours for folk to take in the views (on a clear day!) and see the wildlife.

This walk is similar to the The Oa with the American Monument walk from WalkIslay 2004, which I repeated with my sister when we went Hillwalking on The Oa in July 2004. Very nice and both Gus and Andy are very good and knowledgeable guides.

On Wednesday the trip to Colonsay has had to be cancelled, due to the delay in the work at Port Askaig, but we will still meet at Port Askaig as arranged and take the ferry over to Jura instead. We will walk from Feolin up to Inver, and up to Cnocbreac and head further along the track before returning along the shore line to Feolin and the ferry late afternoon. This will be a walk of around 7- 8 miles of moderate walking taking about 5 hours. Depending on the weather and those in our group we may extend this walk, but we will wait until we get going, but remember to bring your lunch and snacks with you.

I believe this is a similar walk to the one Clare Balding went on with the BBC Radio 4 Ramblings programme. But that's not all, after all the walking there's also an opportunity for relaxation and entertainment:

Also another addition is the music in the Port Charlotte Hotel on the Sunday evening starting at 9pm.

I'm not sure who will be playing, I hope Fraser will be among them, you can watch Fraser play an Irish reel in the bar of the Port Charlotte Hotel to get into the mood.

See you there?
