Islay To Declare Independence

Wow, breaking news from Islay: The information is still sketchy, but news reach me that Islay will today declare independence from the United Kingdom. Councillor Robin Currie wasn't available for comments, but it is expected that he will be elected the first president of the Republic of Islay.

While no final decision has been reached yet it is believed that the former home to the Lord of the Isles, Finlaggan, will be revived and a small parliament will be built on the site. John Findlay is expected to become Minister for Agriculture and Fishing, ably supported by Jim McEwan as Minister for Whisky and Export.

While the loss of the Islay Whisky industry is expected to be a major blow for the Scotch Whisky Association, it is believed to be a major contributor to the GDP of the tiny new nation.

Unconfirmed reports say that the neighbouring Isle of Jura is considering steps to join the new republic, progress is expected to be made over the next couple of hours. Negotiations are already under way to ensure Islay's continued membership of the European Union.

Certainly exciting times for Islay!
