Departure From Islay And Two Birthdays

Picture of a harbour and coastal village in the haze

After a week of entries posted from Islay this is the first entry I'm writing from Swindon, England, again. In other words, after a fantastic WalkIslay 2007 I've left Islay and travelled back to Swindon. It was a difficult departure, only made slightly easier by the weather taking a turn for the worse and knowing that I'll be back in June. Yesterday morning I did some last minute shopping (among others stocking up on Islay Ales) and said good bye a few more times, in the afternoon I boarded the Hebridean Isles for the crossing to Kennacraig.

The night was spent at the Village Inn in Arrochar. Today I completed the journey to Swindon, where I arrived early this evening. The car is unloaded and the first load of dirty clothes in the washing machine.

Now I'm celebrating what's left of my birthday (In case you didn't know, I'm 29 again). Got out my special bottle of Bruichladdich (filled myself with the Valinch on my birthday in 2003), some chocolate and some fantastic Islay shortbread (Thanks again Margaret!). Thank you very much for the various birthday wishes, I'll reply over the next couple of days. I obviously had the best birthday present in advance over the last week.

And finally Happy Birthday to a wee girl whose birthday happens to be today as well! I don't think you can read this (yet), but I'm sure your parents (who've already taken you to Islay and hopefully will take you to Islay again) will pass on my good wishes.
