Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Whisky Blogging

Picture of a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask in the late evening sun

In July last year I mentioned the Laphroaig Collector. Obviously he isn't the only person who likes his Laphroaig. I'm quite partial to the odd wee dram from the beautiful hollow by the broad bay, one of my favourite Islay malts being the Laphroaig Quarter Cask (which I'm enjoying while writing this entry). But there are also others, today I thought I'll link to three people who quite like their Laphroaig:

The Laphroaig Aficionado is Christian Warmuth from Vienna, Austria. He, like Marcel van Gils of Laphroaig Collector, collects bottles of Laphroaig Islay Single Malt. A quite impressive collection on his site, although as mentioned before I personally prefer drinking to collecting.

Other people have the problem that they can't get their favourite Islay Single Malt any more: Bruce Gottfred from Chelsea, Québec in Canada is asking What have you done with my Laphroaig? I don't know much about Canada, but it seems the only place you can buy strong alcohol from around where he lives is LCBO. And they've stopped selling the Laphroaig 10 yr old single malt, although it looks like he will now be able to get the Quarter Cask instead. Which I think is even better, let's hope he'll like it as well.

And finally there's Dr.Whisky, who covers the Quarter Cask in his Malt Mission 2007 #128 entry. It seems Laphroaig is at least partially responsible for his love of Single Malt whiskies, may be in an unexpected way:

One of the first nights I lived in Edinburgh I was sitting in what I would learn was an awful bar, stupidly drinking imported shit beer, and Steve McLean bought me a whisky. He told me it was a Laphroaig. All I knew was it tasted like cancer and reminded me of being at the hospital when I was 6 getting my broken leg casted. Nothing positive. Thank you Laphroaig, you helped launch this pot still passion.

That's enough Laphroaig blogging for now, more some other time.
