Islay Blogging Roundup #34

After a busy morning with various administrative tasks having to be completed followed by a nice lunch with my father and sister a rather slow and quiet afternoon and evening. Time for the Islay Blogging Roundup. This week I'll start with a new blog from Islay:

Life on Islay is the blog about Bronwen and Scott Currie's new life on Islay. They moved to Islay in mid April and now write about daily life on Islay and settling in after their move. Some interesting instructions on how to dry your laundry on Islay! I noticed Scott and Bron met Malcolm Ogilvie, so let me continue with the birdwatching:

John Armitage is still travelling, so almost all birdwatching news come from Ian's and his contributors Islay Birds blog: A nice picture of a Whinchat, a sighting of a Magpie (a rare event on Islay) but fewer swallows than last year. In related news Mike led a butterfly walk, among others a Small Copper was spotted.

Jeremy Hastings has been away on a long wilderness week while Ron has only just returned from Islay.

In other news:

IslayIan (re)presented Islay High School at Education 08, talking about their use of IT in the classroom.

For Argyll reports that an Islay hotel is for sale, the White Hart Hotel to be precise.

Elliott continues to report sea shipping around Islay, among others the M.V Elektron going through the Sound of Islay and the M.V Holland (more about the preserved tug HOLLAND on ClydeSights) visiting Port Ellen.

Tom from Switzerland is gone for now, gone to Islay for a holiday. Have a great time, Tom! Before leaving he wrote about the Ardbeg Renaissance arriving, I have a suspicion which whisky will be in his luggage when he returns...

This brings me nicely to the whisky (and the Islay Festival of Malt and Music, now well under way):

By now the only entry from the Bruichladdich Blog is old news, as the Bruichladdich Open Day was yesterday. I believe it's the Festival valinch, caskstrength.net writes about Bruichladdich - Valinch X4+1 Deliverance - 1 YO. The same bloggers also report from Feis Ile Day 2: "not from london, you know.".

I'm not entirely sure what they're writing (although I think it's positive), here's an Italian blog writing about one of my favourite Islay malts: Ozio creativo: Laphroaig. A guy from Sweden visits the same distillery: Holmen: Laphroaig. He is on Islay at the moment I believe, there are several other entries from Islay. Among them: Morgonpromenad., Det är inte farligt synd om oss., Privat visning. and Här tappas den ljuva drycken upp.. And finally Häftigt. from what looks like the Bruichladdich Open Day.

A few more whisky reviews? OK then, here you go: Steef en Stel's weblog: Blended Laphroaig and Ardbeg « Onversneden.

Last but not least we cross the Sound of Islay to Jura, a french blog writing about Islay's neighbour: JURA : l’île de Dame Nature… : Miss Phit - Le blog de Laurence Phitoussi.

That's all I have for this week's Islay blogging roundup. As usual the reference to the Scottish Roundup, this week with Labour’s by-election woes and the SNP’s SFT. More in the next roundup...
