Islay Hotel and Port Ellen Maltings Silo Update
![Does exactly what it says on the label: This post contains Islay news of some sort Islay News in stencil](../images/islay-news.gif)
Now that title is a bit of a mouthful, but that's exactly what you're going to get in this entry. Remember the Friday Islay Hotel Pictures and the Port Ellen Work Pictures from last week? On Sunday I received an email from Islay with lots of great pictures, two of which I'm going to show you today as update to those earlier entries. To start with the Islay Hotel:
![That's the painting of the hotel finished for now, only the main entrance needs to be completed. Picture of an under construction hotel, both wings painted, only the main portal awaiting completion](../2009images/20091215-islay-hotel-finished-painting.jpg)
That's the painting of the hotel finished. Obviously the entrance and the landing still need to be completed, but it more and more looks like the finished article now. I'm sure Roland is pleased with the results, I think it looks really good.
When I posted the picture of the top of the new silo for the Port Ellen Maltings silo a week ago I mentioned that initially I was confused why they start with the top. The reason was that they jack up the silos from the bottom every time they complete a section. Here's how that looks in practice:
![A good view of the pulleys used to jack up the completed parts of the new silo Picture of a grain silo under construction, showing the pulleys used to jack it up](../2009images/20091215-silo-lifting-process.jpg)
Looks interesting, doesn't it?
That's all I have for today, but as mentioned in the intro there were more pictures in that e-mail. I've left the best for either Wednesday or latest Thursday. At least as far as I'm concerned it's something worth looking forward to.
