Islay Blogging Roundup #108

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

How time flies, in just one week the first month of 2010 will be over already. This is already the fourth Islay blogging roundup this year, admittedly helped by the first day of the year falling on a Friday. The first Snowdrops have been spotted while out guiding on Saturday, so surely spring can't be far away now? But for now back to Islay and Jura in the blogs this week:

The Gyr Falcon already mentioned in last week's roundup is still making the news in the birding blogs: The Islay Birds blog has a picture of the Gyr Falcon with its two new best mates while John Islay Birder Armitage speculates Are there two Gyr falcons on Islay? John also has further thoughts about likely movements of the bird and when to look for raptors. But it's not all about the Gyr Falcon, John also has a close encounter with the Little Egret while the Islay Birds blog has this great picture of an Iceland Gull and the latest Goose count numbers.

Not strictly speaking wildlife, but on Ron's Islay Weblog we find an Islay Highland Ponies Video. Ron also writes about the Team Wiggle Tandem Official Launch, 50% of the team comes from Islay. Mark Unsworth sent him some pictures from the Bruichladdich Distillery Still Room Works, which takes us nicely to the whisky:

In Hark, the blue bird tweets again! on the WHISKYhost Blog we find a ‘twinterview’ with John @Laphroaigwhisky Campbell. WhiskyNotes from Belgium reviews the Bruichladdich Links – St. Andrews while the Edinburgh Whisky Blog has A Quick Dram: Bowmore Tempest. The Bruichladdich Blog comments on Hot Air and picks up on how the SWA Protect Scottish Authenticity as illustrated by Whisky Fun. In The Cask and Still Will writes about a whisky bar in Japan with a few Bruichladdich Islay single malts, which he also tasted.

How about visits to Islay? DTM Passe-Partout writes Scotland - Closed for winter but still seems to have enjoyed the visit to Islay. Not strictly speaking a blog entry, but on ‘Ask MetaFilter’ the question is Help us make the most of an Islay trip this spring?

Andy Wallis writes about the FilmG Shortlisting Success of Islay High Schools FilmG entry and an upcoming road trip (which might result in another film, a ‘road movie’).

Now the pictures: The Islay Energy Trust has some nice Sound of Islay Panoramas. Across the Sound of Islay on Jura Picture of the Day I quite like Welcome to Isle of Jura and the hotel. On Ron's photoblog we find Port Charlotte and Loch Indaal an older picture of Snowdrops in Bridgend Woods.

On Mark Unsworth's Islay Photography Gallery the wintery theme continues, this week I quite liked The Sound of Islay, Loch Ballygrant 3 and Laid up during the freeze. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for the Waves and Oystercatches at Loch Indaal, Walkers on the cliffs of The Oa and my sister's contribution Admiring the View on The Oa, Isle of Islay.

I think that's about it this week, I hope I haven't missed anything important. Of course there's the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with Accolades aplenty. It also reminds us to get our votes in for the Scotblogs Awards, which I'd encourage you to do. There are some great blogs listed, including a few Islay and Jura related blogs. Good night, time for a wee dram of Laphroaig 18yo for me!
