Organic Whisky and the Nissan Leaf on Islay
Mark Reynier of Bruichladdich distillery has been driving an electric car on Islay for a few months now, so I was slightly surprised when starting yesterday I came across quite a few reports about it. This morning I came across a video about it as well. So I had a more detailed look into what this is all about. First the (very well made) video though:
The Nissan Leaf on Islay from David Shepherd on Vimeo.
Digging around a bit I found this goes back to a joint project between Bruichladdich and Nissan. You can read the full details in the press release Nissan Leaf Provides Final Link In Self-sufficiency ‘Chain’ For Bruichladdich Distillery. It is the final piece in the jigsaw for the long running anaerobic digestion project. The video documents part of the story and cooperation.
Pretty much overlooked by the car blogs and news sites is a detail possibly of interest for some of the whisky lovers. The information is limited, but one sentence (and the bottle in the provided picture) caught my eye:
To celebrate the role played by the LEAF, Nissan and Bruichladdich have produced a limited run of bespoke, LEAF-labelled organic whisky.
That's all the information I've managed to find about the whisky so far, but I suspect some collector might be interested in it. Of course the obvious applies: Don't drink and drive.
